Madhuri Dixit


Madhuri Dixit' (Marathi: माधुरी दीक्षित) (born as Madhuri Shankar Dixit to a Marathi Chitpavan Brahmin family on May 15, 1967) is an award winning Indian Bollywood actress and one of the biggest stars of the Indian film industry. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, she dominated Hindi cinema as a leading actress, appearing in many hit films. She is considered to be an icon of the Bollywood film industry.[1] Dixit has been praised for her beauty, acting talent and dancing skills.Maduri Dixit made her acting debut in Abodh (1984). After a few minor and supporting roles her first major role was in Tezaab (1988) which launched her career. She then went on to star in the hit films Dayavan (1988), Ram Lakhan (1989), Dil (1990), Saajan (1991), Beta (1992), Khalnayak (1993), and the Bollywood blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Kaun! (1994). After three years of little success, she appeared as Pooja in the successful Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) for which she won her fourth Filmfare Best Actress Award[2]Also in 1997, Dixit starred in the critically acclaimed Mrityudand ('The Death Sentence'), directed and produced by Prakash Jha. A powerful commentary on social and gender injustice, Mrityudand straddled the boundary between art film and commercial film, and won Best Feature Film of 1998 awards at the Cinéma Tout Ecran in Geneva, the Bangkok Film Festival and the Sansui Awards (Critics' Choice). Madhuri Dixit took home Best Actress awards at both the Screen Awards and Sansui Awards (1998).Her dance sequences accompanying many famous Bollywood songs such as Ek Do Teen (from Tezaab), Bada Dukh Dina (from Ram Lakhan), Dhak Dhak (from Beta), Chane Ke Kheth Mein (from Anjaam), Choli Ke Peechche (from Khalnayak), Akhiyan Milau (from Raja), Piya Ghar Aya (from Yaarana), Key Sera (from Pukar), Mardala (from Devdas), and many others have received abundant critical acclaim.In 2002, she starred in Devdas, with actor Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai. Madhuri Dixit was applauded for her acting in the film. The film attracted worldwide attention and was featured at the Cannes Film Festival.[3] Since then she has not appeared in any films.In 2003, a film title named after her, one of the few films in Bollywood named after an actor/actress, called Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon!.[4]On February 25, 2006 she performed on stage for the first time in six years at the Filmfare Awards to music from her last movie Devdas.[5] Her performance was choreographed by Saroj Khan and was very well received.Madhuri Dixit has been the muse for the famous Indian painter M.F. Hussain who considers her the epitome of the Indian woman. She also appeared in his film Gaja Gamini (2000). Gaja Gamini was intended as a tribute to Dixit's talent and beauty.[6]On December 7, 2006, Dixit returned to Mumbai along with her husband and sons in order to start to film her new movie titled Aaja Nachle, to be produced by Yash Chopra and directed by Anil Mehta.[7]Recently, on Women's International Day, a special article was released to pay tribute to Bollywood Heroines. Dixit topped the list of the Best Bollywood Actresses Ever.

Isha Sharvani

Isha Sharvani (born in 1985 in Gujarat, India) is an Indian dancer and actress. She is known for her stylistic and difficult dance performances. She has also starred in some Bollywood films.She was born in Gujarat, to Daksha Seth, a famous dancer of Gujarati descent, and her father Devissaro who is an Australian musician, a composer and a photographer. She has lived in Ahmedabad, Delhi, Orissa, Vrindavan [1] and Bangalore, before settling down in Thiruvananthapuram.
Isha's parents reside at Velayani Lake near Thiruvananthapuram. They founded an arts school called (AARTI) The Academy for Art Research, Training and Innovation [2] where she lived for 13-14 years. At the age of seven, she began formal learning of dance from her mother and learned Kalaripayattu, Kathak and Chau as well as giving performances in twenty-two countries over last seven years [3].
According to an interview with India Daily, Isha stated she "lived a different life poles apart from the film industry. For 11 years I have been training eight to 10 hours a day in a very disciplined atmosphere where there is no distinction between boys and girls. I was not supposed to cry over a clipped nail. Beyond stage even my wardrobe has mostly unisexual dresses, jeans and T-shirts"Isha never gave acting in Bollywood a priority, until she was spotted by Subhash Ghai who required someone with talented dancing skills to perform in his movie Kisna (2005). He offered her a main role in the film opposite Vivek Oberoi [5]. The film did not do well but her dance performances were appreciated.
Since then she has continued her dance performances on stage, as well as signing several additional movies which are slated for release in 2006. She appeared as a female lead in the Hindi comedy Darwaza Bandh Rakho in 2006. She has mentioned she would be open to acting in Bengali films, provided that the roles are of her interest

Ravishing Raveena Tandon


Raveena Tandon (born October 26, 1970 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India) is a National Film Award winning, Indian Bollywood actress and former model. Tandon, who was a popular star in the 90s and had been known for acting in commercial cinema, came to be one of the most critically appreciated actresses, when she ventured into more serious roles and turned to work in Art Cinema films in the early 2000s.Raveena got her name from a combination of her father's name Ravi and mother's name Veena.Her first film Patthar Ke Phool (1991) was a hit [1], she received the Filmfare Lux New Face Award for her debut performance. She then made headlines with her fight with Karisma Kapoor, the other leading lady in the film Andaz Apna Apna (1994).Her next film Mohra (1994) made her a superstar overnight. However following films flopped at the box office, but her career was back on track with her hit film Ziddi (1997).She then began to do films which ganered critical acclaim rather than box office success. Films like Shool (1999), Bulandi (2000) and Aks (2001) won her huge acclaim. She won the Filmfare Special Performance Award for Aks. Her years in the industry paid off when she won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence (2001), where she played a wife of an abusive husband.

Lisa Ray


Lisa Ray (born April 4, 1972) is a Canadian Bollywood actress and former fashion model. She grew up in Toronto, is the daughter of a Bengali father and a Polish mother.Ray started her modelling career at age 16 and was the "brand ambassador" for Lakme cosmetics in India. She made numerous advertisements for various Indian companies before becoming involved in films.She began her acting career with the Bollywood film Kasoor in 2001 opposite Aftab Shivdasani. Ray then went to Tollywood in 2002 and appeared in Takkari Donga with Mahesh Babu. She subsequently starred as the female lead of Canadian director Deepa Mehta's romantic Indian-Canadian romp, Bollywood/Hollywood in 2002. In 2005, she worked again with Mehta in the latter's most recent film, Water. The film tells the story of a widow, played by Ray, who lives in a Varanasi ashram. Ray starred opposite John Abraham. Although she learned her lines in Hindi for the shoot, her voice ultimately had to be dubbed over in post-production on account of her strong accent.Ray has said that she desires to be a novelist with a base in Paris. She is also hosting "Beauty Mantra" a television show on the Indian channel Zee TV.She recently relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting roles there. Born in Canada, Lisa Ray had early aspirations of a writing career, either as a journalist or novelist until she was discovered by a talent scout for a fashion magazine. She appeared in many high profile international ad campaigns, including L'Oreal, MasterCard, Sprite, Elle Magazine, De beers, Camay, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Rado. After modeling for many years, Lisa Ray made the transition into cinema. She made her film debut in "Kasoor" (2001). The success of this film caught the attention of Deepa Mehta, who cast her in the romantic comedy "Bollywood/Hollywood." Since then, her career has taken off.

Mahima Choudhary

Mahima Chaudhry (born 13 September 1973 in , West Bengal, India, whose real name is Ritu Chaudhry, is a popular Indian actress.She is a vegetarian and a PETA ambassador. Her name Mahima means Gods Greatness.Her height is 5 ft 5 inches.Mahima was a model before she became a Bollywood actress, once appearing with Aishwarya Rai in a Pepsi commercial. Her first breakthrough performance, where she won rave reviews, was Pardes (1997) as Ganga, the love interest of two men played by Shah Rukh Khan and Apoorva Agnihotri. She was chosen to be the female lead among about 3,000 applicants who auditioned for Pardes. Her career was launched by Subhash Ghai who had also launched the careers of popular actresses like Madhuri Dixit and Manisha Koirala. She has been said to have changed her name to Mahima Chaudhary since Subhash Ghai has a superstitious belief of launching big careers with actresses whose names start with the letter 'M', but this is not the case, she has kept her real name as she believes that her real name is a very personal part of her and something that she wants to keep. She won rave review for her first performance in Pardes (1997) as a village girl who still values her culture.
