Lisa Ray


Lisa Ray (born April 4, 1972) is a Canadian Bollywood actress and former fashion model. She grew up in Toronto, is the daughter of a Bengali father and a Polish mother.Ray started her modelling career at age 16 and was the "brand ambassador" for Lakme cosmetics in India. She made numerous advertisements for various Indian companies before becoming involved in films.She began her acting career with the Bollywood film Kasoor in 2001 opposite Aftab Shivdasani. Ray then went to Tollywood in 2002 and appeared in Takkari Donga with Mahesh Babu. She subsequently starred as the female lead of Canadian director Deepa Mehta's romantic Indian-Canadian romp, Bollywood/Hollywood in 2002. In 2005, she worked again with Mehta in the latter's most recent film, Water. The film tells the story of a widow, played by Ray, who lives in a Varanasi ashram. Ray starred opposite John Abraham. Although she learned her lines in Hindi for the shoot, her voice ultimately had to be dubbed over in post-production on account of her strong accent.Ray has said that she desires to be a novelist with a base in Paris. She is also hosting "Beauty Mantra" a television show on the Indian channel Zee TV.She recently relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting roles there. Born in Canada, Lisa Ray had early aspirations of a writing career, either as a journalist or novelist until she was discovered by a talent scout for a fashion magazine. She appeared in many high profile international ad campaigns, including L'Oreal, MasterCard, Sprite, Elle Magazine, De beers, Camay, Ermenegildo Zegna, and Rado. After modeling for many years, Lisa Ray made the transition into cinema. She made her film debut in "Kasoor" (2001). The success of this film caught the attention of Deepa Mehta, who cast her in the romantic comedy "Bollywood/Hollywood." Since then, her career has taken off.

She went on to host BPL OYE!.She also did a cameo role opposite Rahul Roy and with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's Afreen Afreen music video.
After long gap, She came back with a vengeance and Done Lakme, Sprite, Matiz, Monte Carlo, and the Garden ad Campaigns.She has also appeared on the cover of Great Looks, Elle and Femina magazines. After her debut film Kasoor, Lisa Ray had shown a distinct disinclination to pursue a career in Bollywood. However, a filmmaker from South has succeeded in breaking the reserve of the lissome lass. She's started writing for Cosmopolitan, The Times group of publications and The Indian Express. Her ambition is to be a novelist. Lisa Ray is the beauty who has been ranked as the ninth most beautiful woman of the Millenium in India by a poll conducted by the Times of India, the only model in the top ten.
